Every one of us has a crazy aunt that thinks she is the master of fixing everything.
- Sure, your aunt may be fine at fixing this or that, but should you absolutely trust them? It has been my experience that my aunt’s definition of fixing something actually means that she finds some way to make something work.
When our furnace broke down, I had no idea what to do! I was having a family reunion at the time, and we didn’t want our family to get cold because our furnace wasn’t actually working. I grabbed the phone to have the HVAC worker service our furnace. My Aunt Jane told me that she would take care of it for free. I was a little hesitant, however the price tag was definitely better than what the HVAC business would charge me, she was in the furnace room for hours finally working away, and I found some space gas furnaces to plug in while we were waiting for her to get the job done. After a few minutes, she told me that the furnace should beginning finally working again. When I adjust the temperature control, I thought I heard the furnace kick on. That was when we noticed that the smell of smoke was coming through the vents. The components inside of our furnace were melting and burning, and I abruptly flipped the breaker for the furnace. When the HVAC worker came over, he told me that the first issue would have been simple to fix, however my aunt had switched wires and nearly caused a new home fire with our furnace. The HVAC worker explained that he had been trained and licensed to work on HVAC systems, however my aunt had not. Don’t worry, I have learned my lesson.
